Flightplan
The adventure starts at my hometown, Graz in Austria. The first attempt of the flight didn’t work out like expected, because the weather turned out to be completely unflyable. Thunderstorms and severe rain hit southern Austria and as a consequence of using real weather in the sim, I simply had to cancel the flight. But anyway, a few days later, everything looked literally perfect for the first leg!
After take off, I flew over Styria, Carinthia with it’s famous lake named Wörthersee, passed the Kravanks in 34.000ft, headed over Udine and crossed the Adriatic sea overhead Lignano, a very well know touristic place at the northern adriatic coast. While flying over the Adriatic sea, one could see Venice, Chioggia and Bologna from a distance before I started our descent into Florence, our first leg’s destination. The weather during this flight was absolutely stunning, so there was plenty of opportunities to enjoy the gorgeous scenery.
Why Florence? Well, that’s easy to explain: I’m a huge fan of Tuscany and during the past 10 years I spend at least once a year one or two weeks there enjoying the wonderful Italian life with good food, wine and incredible landscapes. Besides, Florence is a really nice city and it’s exposed position on the globe makes it quite an interesting place to land at.
A little to the north the Apennenes are located and the runway itself is quite short and a go araound in northern direction is not so fun. On the other side, the approach to the airport is very nice at it leads over the wonderful landscape of the Tuscany.
